Ruth and Kate are here from Indiana!!! We kids drove to the city bright and early Friday morning to pick them up. We've been relaxing a bit this week, letting the girls get over their jetlag (which I am convinced is contagious!). We have been busy with a few things, though. Saturday was my first piano recital with my students! I woke up voiceless on Saturday morning, after being sick most of the week. I could only whisper to speak, and Mom told me to rest my voice and try not to speak at all. That, of course, was quite difficult for me, and I didn't succeed very well. I could croak by the afternoon and tried to say a bit about each student in the recital. The recital went pretty well...aside from the fact that I got a bit nervous, there were a few tiny mistakes, and I accidently scared one of my students by sneaking up behind her to turn the page. Ruth helped me make a piano cake, and we had cake and punch afterwards. We took some good photos; unfortunately, they were on Kate's camera, which lacks a chord to put them onto the computer. Maybe we'll figure out how to put them up later. Youth Camp is coming this Friday to Monday (Queen's Birthday weekend here in Oz), and Maria is going to be the cook! So we girls helped her shop for all the food on Tuesday. Mom decided to get our fortnightly shopping trip in, as well, so we ended up at Aldi with FIVE carts full of food! The check-out lady (along with several other on-lookers) asked us how many kids we had and went on to say that she'd never seen so many American girls all at once! We had to make another shopping trip yesterday for all the things Aldi didn't carry. We finally got to the last thing on our list, vanilla, only to find out that Safeway has recalled all of their vanilla extract because kids keep buying it and drinking it for the alcohol in it! What silliness. My voice is mostly back, but I still can't really sing. I've been trying all week! I got a bit of a lecture from a friend yesterday who told me that if I kept trying to sing and talk all the time, I could damage my vocal chords permanately! I am supposed to so some singing things at camp this weekend, so I am trying to "rest" my voice until then... So there's a bit more life for you. Now I better go finish living it!
