The alarm sounded shortly after six, rudely pulling me from my pleasant dreams into reality. I remembered why we had to get up and grumpily ignored the alarm, as well as Maria's cheerful shouts of, "Wake up, wake up!" Ugh. This is crazy. I continued to pretend I was asleep for about 10 more minutes, then groggily stepped out of my cozy bed. At the same time, Maria came back into our room and announced that it was raining and we had permission to go back to sleep. "Praise the Lord!" I couldn't help but say. It made my sisters laugh, but I was completely serious in my statement. I prayed that the rain would stay for at least an hour or two longer. Knowing I had some precious minutes to catch some more sleep, I settled nicely back into bed and began dreaming again until about 8, when mom called us to breakfast. _-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_ About an hour later, after changing twice until I was properly dressed for the unexpectedly cold weather, I was on my way down the street, folding and stuffing papers whilst humming aloud and singing in my head. Lights will guide you home.. and ignite your bones.. and I will try.. to fix you... I glanced across the road to see a man kind of staring at me. I knew if I immediately stopped humming, I'd come across as even more foolish. So I kept right along with the song, grinning slightly. Allen's red and purple starred cap was keeping my head from getting wet, but unfortunately wasn't completely stopping the mist from smearing on my glasses. I couldn't complain, though; it was actually perfect weather for my present task. With my music keeping me company, I finished the two routes and headed for the short-cut home. As I walked across the school field, I was tempted to stop at the playground just ahead and swing for a bit. But as I knew I had things to get done at home, I kept walking. _-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_ After singing "Happy Birthday" to Mrs. Ray, reminiscing with Mary, Maria, and Tamara about years past, eating lunch, and finishing school, I reluctantly prepared myself for my third route. After drinking a cup of coffee to get me going and arming myself with Brave Saint Saturn, I set out. Walking along the rather busy road, I felt that I should be wearing a sign on my back: Yes, I'm a nerd delivering papers. No, you may not run over me. I passed a white-bearded man walking his little white dog for the second or third time. "We're going to have to stop meeting like this!" he said, in his Scottish accent. I laughed quietly in and smiled back at him. Shortly afterwards, I cringed as I saw three school kids coming towards me. I tried to look invisible and get lost in my music, tuning everything around me out. It sort of worked. Nearing the end of my route, I debated with myself whether or not to attempt to stuff another paper in a couple already overflowing slots. I looked up and saw a little boy on a bike coming towards me. Hey... it's Benjamin. Tamara and Allen were following behind him, and Allen tried to run me over. I love my siblings, silly as they are. I couldn't help myself and laughed aloud as I saw a Driver's Ed car pass by at least six times. I shouldn't have been so amused. Driver's Ed is not an amusing experience (for the learner). _-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_ Mom picked me up as my music changed from Brave Saint Saturn to old Eisley songs. I planned parts of my post on the drive home, glad my rounds were completed. Today was good... but I'm not sure I'm looking forward to this job though an unbearably hot summer.
