I'm going to recap our trip from end to beginning... 'cause I can remember last night a lot better than last Monday. We stopped with the Blakstons at Hungry Jack's. Maria and I were making the fashion statement of our lives in coats and big black rubber boots that went up almost to our knees. We had a lovely, fat-filled meal, and went to the restroom before we hopped in the car once again. So there we (Maria and I) were, innocently discussing farms, cows, and the like in our ever so perfect southern hickish accents. I heard someone come into the restroom, but decided it must only be Tamara. So I yelled out, "Hey, Tamara, is that you?" She replied back that she was in there. "Okay," I said, coming out. "Just making sure it was you and not some strange--" Tamara cut me off and shushed me and pointed to the second stall. I'm sure the random lady was very much disturbed by our, um, disturbingness. I ran out of there as fast as I could, laughing my head off. I decided to try snowboarding one more time Friday morning. I was still using Brandon's snowboard and boots. Allen was there this time, so he kindly offered to help Tamara and me out. We definitely needed the help. I braved it all the way to the top of the hill three times. The first time, I fell at least 4 times. The second, only two (once in the middle, once at the bottom). The third time, I nearly killed myself flying straight down the steep part and landing right near the bushes and rocks to the side. I alarmed a couple people and almost broke my tail bone, but I made it the rest of the way down the hill in one piece. It was almost lunch time, and I decided I'd had just about enough snowboarding for the day (for the year). I spend Wednesday and Thursday being sore from the day before, watching other people ski/snowboard, having snowball fights, and hiking over the mountians. Oh, those days also included eating and making people hot chocolate. Yum. You can't have snow without hot chocolate! :-) Tuesday brought my first attempt at snowboarding. Maybe I should've just left the whole idea alone. According to my mom, I should've given up and taken up skiing like Maria. Oh well, maybe next year. We girls spent the entire morning walking up the slope instead of taking the ski lift. Instead of being a chair lift, it was this little disk-like thing that you put between your legs that dragged you up the slope. We finally got the hang of it after a couple of tries. My family kept making fun of my "I'm a little tea pot" pose (holding on with one hand and putting the other hand on my back hip). But that's what the guy said to do! And besides, it worked for me! So there. :-P I had fun snowboarding, but I wouldn't say it's something I love. More something I made myself do. I think I will try the skis next year - if we go. I think my favorite part of the whole holiday was just hanging out with the other people in our cabin. I especially enjoyed getting to know Jono and Louise Blakston and their kids better. Oh my, you should've seen their kids ski! Ages 8, 6, and 4, they were unbelieveable!!! I'm sure I should've been embarrassed at how good they were and how bad I was, but I wasn't. I just enjoyed watching them. Jono was fabulous at capturing some of my more graceful moments on camera. He was even gracious enough to get a video of my first collision with the temporary fence. Contrary to popular opinion, I hated that fence!!! ![]() ![]() Tamara & Me (don't we look like we know what we're doing?? Well... we don't. :-P) Song of the post ~ "Bring on the Rain" by Jodee Messina and Tim Graw Yeah, so this song doesn't really go with the post at all... but I'm in one of my 'country moods'. :-D Charity | 12:29 pm Comments-[ comments.] |
